Brazilië: vliegtuigindustrie (PESP02131)
Datum: 09.12.2002
De Braziliaanse
vliegtuigbouwer Embraer gaat 4 nieuwe typen vliegtuigen ontwikkelen. Hiervoor
zijn producten en diensten noodzakelijk op het gebied van ondermeer prototype
configuratie, materialen/gietvormen, het exterieur van de vliegtuigen,
logistiek en IT.
Summary
The aircraft sector
Constant and rapid growth of technical development as well as the need for faster,
safer and more silent aircraft makes the aircraft industry one of the most
dynamic markets worldwide. In Brazil, the aviation sector has traditionally been an area of
important interest and concentration in terms of market development. Despite
the ups and down on the Brazilian economy and the commercial aviation crisis,
the industry achieved positive results, motivating the expansion of
manufacturing bases of companies operating in this segment opening new units in
the country.
We cannot talk about the Brazilian aircraft market without mentioning
Embraer - the fourth largest commercial aircraft manufacturer in the world. Embraer's headquarters is located in
Sao Jose dos Campos, in the state of Sao Paulo. Embraer was Brazil's largest
exporter from 1999 to 2001 and second largest in 2002. Embraer's firm order
backlog as of June 2003 totalled US$10.3 billion. As of the same date, backlog
including options reached US$27.1 billion. Embraer leads a group with widely
diversified interests in the aerospace field. The group's activities entail the
design, development, production and marketing of a range of turboprop and jet
aircraft for regional airline and military use, turboprop aircraft for general
aviation, corporate and agricultural utilization, and aviation-related
mechanical and hydraulic systems.
In the maintenance sector, Brazil is considered as a leading player in
aircraft market because the country is the major industrial economy in Latin
America region.
Business in the Brazilian Aircraft Sector – Risk share partners and
suppliers
Embraer has developed "risk sharing" partnership with key
international aerospace companies. Their risk share partners have direct participation on the
success of their aircraft program. In addition to Embraer's risk sharing
partners, the company obtains components and material from over 150 suppliers
throughout the world. As a result, almost 90 percent of the value of components
parts and material for the new 30-to-120 seat category Embraer regional jets comes from
foreign suppliers.
The opportunity raised by PESP to the companies AAR Corp, ADSE
Consulting, ATS Kleisen and Silver Aerospace, all members of the Netherlands
Aerospace Group-NAG, in cooperation with Brazilian aerospace consulting company
Mcspace allowed the Dutch companies to be introduced to Embraer and the
Brazilian market, by presenting the companies’ capabilities, fostering exchange
of technical information that have lead to advanced discussions to the supply
of goods and engineering services in the areas of aircraft design and
modification, program management, systems integration, tooling design and
manufacturing, support to certification and tests to the recent launched
regional aircraft Embraer 170 , the new-coming Embraer 190 and its modified
versions.
NAG members have expressed the interest to continue the exploration of this
market with the objective to become suppliers or risk sharing partners of
Embraer and its associated companies in the near future.
The future of the regional aircraft
market throughout the world
Worldwide GDP is expected to achieve a 4.1%
growth rate in 2004, and during the 20 year forecast period, global GDP is
expected to achieve an average annual growth rateof 3.3%. Demand for air travel
in the 30-to-120 seat category is projected to grow faster than GDP, averaging
6.1% annually over the forecast period.
China and Latin America will show the most significant growth among the world’s
geographic regions. Over the next 20 years, China’s revenue passenger
kilometers (RPK) are expected to grow at an average annual rate of 8.1%. Latin
America is also expected to see high levels of growth, averaging a projected 7%
annual rate over the forecast period.
Despite robust traffic growth, North America will experience a decline in its
share of world RPK by 2023. The expanding demand for regional aircraft
will continue to grow during the next 20 years, a demand for 41,176 new
aircraft of all types, worth about $2.18 trillion at today's prices. Of that
total demand, the world market will require 8,319 new regional aircraft-defined
as having fewer than 100 seats at an estimated value of $179 billion. More than
half of the new airplanes (4,685) to be delivered will be in the 30- to 50-seat
class, while the remainder (3,634) will be in the 70- to 90-seat category.
North America and Europe will account for the lion's share-70 percent-of new
regional aircraft demand. Regional airlines will continue to outpace the mainline carriers in
short-haul markets but will increase market share at a slower rate than in recent
years. During that period it is predicted the retirement of 4,279 regional
aircraft, representing 80 percent of the current fleet.
