Description
The proposed operation consists of an equity participation in First Microfinance Institution Syria(FMFI), a licensed institution specialised in microfinance and providing a broad range of financial services to the poor and the underserved population of Syria.
Objectives
The operation will help to alleviate the poverty of the Syrian rural and urban population, develop the local financial sector by supporting the establishment of a new institution, and introduce new financial products over time, such as saving deposits and insurance for the underserved and “un-banked” poor.

Description
L'opération proposée porte sur une prise de participation dans First Microfinance Institution Syria (FMFI), une institution de microfinance agréée qui offre, en Syrie, un large éventail de services financiers aux populations pauvres ou qui ont difficilement accès à ce type de prestations.
Objectifs
L'opération contribuera à lutter contre la pauvreté en Syrie – tant en milieu rural qu'en milieu urbain –, à développer le secteur financier local en soutenant la création d'une nouvelle institution et à mettre progressivement de nouveaux produits financiers tels que l'épargne ou l'assurance à la disposition des populations qui ont peu ou pas accès à ces services.
