Bulgarije: port Varna sees growth of freight transport

Datum: 27.07.2010

The amount of goods and materials transported through Bulgaria's Port Varna grew by 9 percent in the first half of 2010 year-on-year. A total of 3,233,000 tonnes of goods and materials went through the port in January-June 2010, announced the port administration.

The increase is attributed mostly to the increased activity of the factories located close to the Port Varna West, near the town of Devnya, which have increased their production and exports of fertilizers, construction materials, sodium and other chemical substances, as well as the increased imports of wind power generators.

The exports of chemical products, scrap, china clay, ores, grain, and timber has intensified. The exports of wheat, barley, and rapeseed are expected to increase even more in August. The port administration hopes that if there are no weather issues by the end of July it would have processed the record amount of 700,000 tonnes of goods and materials.
